Quinta do Noval is distinguished by the beauty of its terraces, the house, warehouse and typical wineries, which continue in current use. It was acquired in 1894 by Antio Josda Silva, who developed it in the next three decades. Their descendants (recently the van Zeller family) maintained the farm until 1993, the year it was acquired by AXA. In 1997, Quinta do Noval pioneered centralizing all its activities in the Douro Valley
