Justino's Single Cask 2000 Madeira Wine (500ml)

€79.40
Prestige Wines Portugal ,
5/ 5

Justino's Single Harvest 2000 Madeira Wine presents an amber to cashew hue, clear and bright, typical of prolonged aging in wood. Its aromatic profile is complex and rich, marked by intense notes of dried fruits such as nuts and almonds, nuances of spices, roasted caramel, and slight hints of exotic wood and smoke. On the palate, it stands out for the balance between its natural sweetness and a vibrant, refreshing acidity, a structural feature of the wines from this region. It has a smooth texture and a long, persistent, and dry finish.

Unlike still wines, Madeira wines of this style have high stability due to their manufacturing and maturation process. Once opened, the bottle maintains its organoleptic properties for several months, as long as it is stored in a cool place and away from direct light. It should be served slightly chilled, ideally between 13°C and 15°C. Madeira wine is known for its unique and distinctive character, and Justino's Single Harvest 2000 exemplifies these qualities, offering a nuanced and memorable tasting experience. This wine is not only a delight to drink, but it also serves as a testament to the rich winemaking tradition of the Madeira region.

Justino's Boal Colheita 2008 Madeira Wine

€35.10
Prestige Wines Portugal ,
5/ 5

Justino's Boal Colheita 2008 is crafted using the traditional aging method known as 'canteiro.' In this process, the wines are aged in oak casks under the natural heat of the warehouses. This allows them to develop their oxidative characteristics while maintaining a balance between the natural sweetness and acidity of the region's grapes. This unique method ensures that the distinct flavours of the two grape varieties used are preserved, without merging them into a single commercial reference.

Dow's Nirvana Reserve Port Wine (500 ml)

The story of Dow’s is unusual amongst all the great Port houses. It began in 1798 when Bruno da Silva, a Portuguese merchant from Oporto, made a journey which was the opposite to that of the first British merchants. The Port shipping business was continued by Bruno’s son, John da Silva who in 1862 brought into partnership Frederick William Cosens. With the continuing expansion of the firm, Edward da Silva and Frederick Cosens were joined by George Acheson Warre, whose well known family had been involved in the Port trade since its earliest years. In 1877, Silva & Cosens merged with another leading Port company, Dow & Co.

Although smaller than Silva & Cosens, Dow & Co had become a very highly regarded Port producer with a particularly fine reputation for its Vintage Ports and when the two companies merged, it was decided to adopt DOW’S as the brand name

For over two centuries the name of DOW has been associated with the finest Port from the vineyards of the Upper Douro Valley. Throughout the 20th Century and into the 21st, the Symington family has built on the legacy of the preceding Silva and Dow families.

Dow’s attractive and distinctive drier finish is the recognisable hallmark of the wines from this great Port house.
